The Budapest Gambit is a chess defense played by Black versus the d4 c4 setup. It is not played at top level chess events by grandmasters due to its somewhat dubious nature. Nonetheless it is not refuted yet and can be used by Black to surprize his opponent.
After 1. d4 Nf6 2.c4 e5 Black offers the e-pawn for capture to regain it later or to sacrifice a pawn in some lines to get active play.
